OSCAR® NOMINEE IRIS YAMASHITA
On Saturday, August 11, the Scriptwriters Network is proud to host one of our most successful alumni, and to our knowledge the first Network member ever to be nominated for an Academy Award® - IRIS YAMASHITA.Iris earned her Best Adapted Screenplay nomination alongside co-story writer Paul Haggis for her first produced screenplay, LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA. Directed by Oscar®-winner Clint Eastwood, LETTERS was named “Best Picture” by both the National Board of Review and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. It also received a Golden Globe award for “Best Foreign Language Film” of 2006 and was nominated for 4 Oscars.
This event will take place in the Charlie Chaplin Theater at Raleigh Studios, 5300 Melrose Ave. (between Bronson and Van Ness). Doors open at 1 pm, with the speaker to begin at 1:30. No RSVP required. Non-member admission is $15.00 ($10 for members of WGA, Women in Film, FIND, FIN, ScreenplayLab, or Jeff Gund’s Info List). Parking is available for $5 on the lot, or metered on the streets. Please enter through the Van Ness Ave. gate.
